Finding the area

Buckaloons Recreation Area rests on the site of a former Indian village, on the banks of the Allegheny River. Take U.S. Route 6 west from Warren, PA. Buckaloons is just south of the intersection of U.S. Routes 6 and 62, about six miles from Warren.

Open May 1st to October 25, 2023.

Reservations can be made at Recreation.gov.  Availability opens 180 days out, with a rolling day to day window.

Buckaloons offers:

  • 57 family campsites, two double sites, and one group site, each containing a picnic table(s), fire ring, and grassy tent site.
  • There are showers, flush toilets, a pressurized water system, and a dump station.
  • There are electrical hookups on 43 sites. A concrete boat launch, a pavilion, and a picnic area are also available.
  • Dead and down wood may be used as firewood. Host has firewood and ice for sale

Other features

The Buckaloons Seneca Interpretive Trail, named for the Seneca Indian tribe that once lived here, circles the entire recreation area. It is one mile long. An online map of this trail is available.
